Trayvon Martin family lawyers' statement on George Zimmerman jury selection:
"This case has always been about equal justice. Equal justice under the law is not a black value or a white value. It's an American value. With the makeup of this jury, the question of whether every American can get equal justice regardless of who serves on their jury panel will be answered. We expect the jury pool to do their duty and be fair and impartial. We firmly believe that when these jurors see the overwhelming evidence that will be put before them in the coming weeks, they will find George Zimmerman guilty of murder on the night in question."

My thoughts on the George Zimmerman Jury Selection - June 20, 1013
As I read some of the #GeorgeZimmerman tweets, it is very clear people are clueless when it comes to selecting a jury. If I understand correctly, 500 people received summons to appear in court. I believe in Florida, the prospective jurors are selected by random via driver's licences.
The court starts with the first 100 jurors to fill out the questionnaire, and put into categories according to what they answer on the jury questionnaire.
We had B, H, E, I, M's and so on, and court starts with the first letter and works from there.
Once the first 40 that made it to the second phase of questioning, it is then that both the state and defense pick the jury. Remember, the STATE, representing Trayvon Martin could have stricken ten jurors, of which, they did strike four white women and also agreed to strike two black jurors.
The selection of jurors is not to go through 500 jurors, but to find a jury within the first 40, of which, is the amount that the judge selected for the second phase. If the first 40 did not seat the six jurors and four alternates, then the court will continue until they have the six jurors and four alternates.
I listened to all the jurors answers and also read the #GeorgeZimmerman tweets when black men and woman spoke about their thoughts and how "tweeters" wondered where the black people were coming from especially if they didn't have an opinion one way or another.
It's pretty sad that people feel that a predominately all white jury can't be fair to determine whether an Hispanic man is guilty or innocent in the death of a black teenager.

Potential Juror G87 being questioned:
Although G87 would have made a good juror, once it came out that she saw the buses coming to the memorial and that she worked at the school across from the memorial, she was going to be dismissed. What really ticked me off was Tony Pipitone, WKMG-TV Investigative Reporter.
While G87 was on the stand and mentioned the school, Tony tweets the name of the school. Really Tony, we all know that the potential jurors were to remain anonymous, and I would believe this would include where they are employed.
The media has been getting a bad rap througout the jury selection and clearly the media doesn't really care.

George Zimmerman Trial - June 13, 2013
I need to post George Zimmerman's non emergency phone call to the police so it can be listened to again. So many of the potential jurors heard things that actually were never stated.

Police never told George Zimmerman NOT to get out of the car. Some of the potential jurors feel that when police told George not to follow Trayvon, that George continued to follow Trayvon. If you listen to the tape, when the police asked George if he was following Trayvon, George stated yes, and the police told George "we do not need you to do that." George then says OK, and then you can clearly here that George is not walking at a fast pace, but walking normally and talking to the dispatcher. George at that point could not see Trayvon.
Today ten more potential jurors were questioned. E50, E75, E81, K80, K95, N18, B34, B67, P67, G14.
E50, male, white, in his early sixties and originally from West Virginia. He lost an adult child about five years ago, of which, apparently suffered from schizophrenia. He has an adult daughter and her four year old child living with him.
E50, felt if this was a white on white, or black on black crime, the crowds would probably not even happen.
E50 takes his grandchild to school and/or summer camp and E50's wife picks the child up. E50 feels that it would be difficult being on the jury as he has the responsibility of his grandchild. Although his daughter is not working and might have a job on Monday, most is left up to E50.
However, E50 indicates being on the jury would mess up his golf game. My thoughts about E50, if something ever happened to you, your family would have to find a way to get the grandchild to school or summer camp. Think about it!
E75, male, white and a recent High School graduate. E75 is at least eighteen years of age. E75 is eighteen and not a child as he can serve on a jury and Trayvon was seventeen and classified as a "little child." Although there is one year difference between E75 and Trayvon, it is very clear age seventeen is not a "little child."
Always keep in mind, a seventeen year old can join the military and fight for our country.
E75 gave the courtroom a very good insight on how teenagers perceived the shooting. E75 appears to be very level-headed and would make a very good juror for this trial.
E81, female, white and in her thirties according to the media in the courtroom. E81 feels George Zimmerman is innocent. E 81 looked right at George Zimmerman when she said he should go home.
E81 feels people have the right to defend themselves and carry a firearm as long as it is legal and lawful.
E-81 stated: "If a boy is smoking pot, interested in guns, learning to fight, going
down wrong path, he is looking for reason to fight."
E81 has seen photos of George's injuries, knows about Trayvon and the marijuana, street fighting and the gun shown in the photos from Trayvon's cellphone.
E81 gave the state a run for their money. E81 knows how she feels, and won't let one additional word be added to what she alone has stated.
E81 is married to an ex-police officer, and prefers not to be separated from him by being sequestered. E81 prefers to sleep in her own bed.
E81 did feel that she will have a "bullseye" on her back should she be selected to be a juror. I am not surprised by her feelings as Orange County, Florida is still healing from the Casey Anthony trial.
There was a lot of discussion at the side bar once questioning was over, and it will be very interesting to see if E81 makes it to the next round and eventually on the jury.
N18, male, middle-aged Hispanic. N18 feels George Zimmerman is guilty. N18 only reads the Bible and follows God's law. N18 states if you kill someone you are guilty. N18 feels his head is "out of balance, can't sleep and gets up at 2:00 AM prays on his knees.
B67, female, Hispanic and according to the media young. B67 claims she never heard of Trayvon Martin or George Zimmerman. Claims she didn't understand the jury questionnaire and claimed hardship. B67 was dismissed.
P67, male, Hispanic and a Mexican immigrant from Chicago. P67 posted on Facebook about receiving his jury summons. No one in his family has served or received a summons to serve on a jury.
P67 want to be on the jury to serve as a US citizen. It is very clear that P67 first language is Spanish, and as long as time is taken to explain things to P67, he clearly understands his duty as a juror. My only concern with P67, is that the state talks fast, witnesses maybe to technical, and P67 might not be able to comprehend it all.
G14, female, white and middle-aged according to the media. G14 did check the Internet to see what trials were scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2013.
G14 has heard about the shooting on TV news, photos of George's injuries, 911 calls. G14 hasn't picked a side and felt the protesters prompted discussions that didn't need to happen.
G14 claims she heard that George was told not to follow Trayvon but he did anyway! G14 still would make a good juror and will learn the facts of the case at that time.
No decision had been made regarding sequestration before the potential jurors were questioned starting Monday. However, at 1:00 PM today, the Judge informed the attorney's that the jury will be sequestered and the trial should last between two to four weeks.
Just before the court ended for the day, B65, black female from Wednesday, who lives a simple life, came into court to tell the court that her employer would not pay her for the entire sequestration. B65 was dismissed.

George Zimmerman Trial - June 12, 2013
Another fast-paced day questioning the potential jurors for the George Zimmerman Trial. The following potential jurors took the stand: E73, M75, R39, B61, B72, E22, B87, E7, E13, E28.
One particular potential juror stood out today, R39, young male, perhaps of mixed race started off pretty well. He didn't watch much, calls his mother on the way home from work every day, but the clincher was: "R39 believes murder is murder even if it was in self-defense." That pretty much assured R39, he was not going to be a juror in this trial. However, his words will be played endlessly over the entertainment news shows.
The other potential juror E7, male, white around 50 years old, was very interesting to listen to. First, I thought he had an under-tone of being sarcastic. Then, the more he spoke, it was more of being straightforward. Although E7 seems to take on the "devil's advocate" role in conversations where an issue that is being pounded on, E7 will try to show another view.
I felt a connection to E7, as I have been a "devil's advocate" often throughout my life as I do believe there are two sides to each story.
E7 appeared to have seen enough coverage of what happened, and used "allegedly" a few times throughout his answers. After the questioning of E7 ended, the attorney's went to a sidebar, and then the Judge asks E7 about a post made on "Coffee Pary Progressives" Facebook. I thought the title was "Party Progressive" but I wasn't able to confirm what I heard. (I really need headphones before the trial starts.)
E7 looked at the paper the Judge handed to him and E7 confirmed he wrote the story. The public is not aware of what was in the story, but it appears E7 makes it to the next round (I hope).
Note: To all potential jurors, make sure you check what you have written on Facebook or Twitter before you show up for jury selection. If you claim you have a Facebook, the attorneys will check them out before you get to the stand.
E73 female feels media created racial overtones. She has seen several photos of Trayvon Martin as well as George Zimmerman. She has not formed an opinion, and has a child that requires care.
M75, female has not formed an opinion, and wants to hear the evidence. M75 felt the "hoodie" march was ridiculous, if I heard her correctly. M75 was invited to protest with her co-workers and she declined. M75 also believes that black people were not targeted and she lives close to where the shooting happened.
B61, female, white or Asian, late twenties, early thirties. B61 feels it was not racially motivated. B61 has seen pleas for money for George Zimmerman, and knows about the Trayvon Martin "marijuana." B61 showed concern for safety after trial based on another high profile trial in another state. I feel the trial B62 is talking about is the Jodi Arias trial.
E22, black, female heard about the case through Orlando Sentinel and channel 3. E22 knew about the marches, felt police needed to be more pro-active, and should have done something. E22 hopes people won't be violent after the trial. What stood out to me is, E22 assured the attorneys "she did not have a secret agenda."
Nothing stood out to me with the balance of the potential jurors. Once the court reaches 30 potential jurors questioned in the first round, they will be questioned again in another area of interest in the case.

Attorney Crump made the following statement on behalf of the Martin family: "Today on the third day of the jury selection in the Trayvon Martin murder trial we are inspired by the honesty of the potential jurors. Their answers have been forthright and we have faith that the justice system and the members of the public who are selected for the jury will perform their civic duty in a fair and impartial manner.
Yesterday, former NYPD detective Harry Houck commented to FOX that Trayvon would be alive today if he didn’t have a “street attitude.” This comment, made on a live panel, is reprehensible and extremely reminiscent of the victim blaming rhetoric we saw a year ago.
We all know Trayvon Martin was an unarmed teenager, who'd just bought Skittles and a tea on a chilly Florida evening in February. George Zimmerman was an armed adult who followed Trayvon down a street, pursued him and then shot him.
We are calling on the media to refuse to perpetuate victim blaming and irresponsible characterizations of Trayvon. The evidence shows there is no blood on Trayvon’s hands. Trayvon is not on trial here, he is the victim. Trayvon’s killer, George Zimmerman, is the man who is on trial."

George Zimmerman Trial - June 11, 2013
Jury selection picked up pace on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, with potential
jurors B7, B35, B37, B51, B55, B2 (excused), B65, B86, E6, E40, E54 as well as
one other potential juror, no number publicly announced in court. This potential
juror spoke to the judge and lawyers and was excused.
Two potential jurors stood out in the Twitter world, B35 is a black male with a 21 year old child and a middle aged black female B65.
B35 seemed to be neutral with regard to what happened, and didn't feel that the shooting was racially targeted. As B35 continued to answer the lawyer's question, it started to look like B35 was the perfect juror for this trial.
When you have a potential juror that is "too good to be true," especially a potential juror who is black in a very high profile case where many people feel was racially motivated, you have to take a step back and really listen.
B35 seems to be the perfect juror as he would represent the community as he is black, and the Martin family wants jurors to represent the community. I have to take the Martin families word "represent the community" as some white and some black on the jury.
Since I am viewing the George Zimmerman Trial as an in-home juror who is neutral, and have taken no sides, it is very clear to me, many of the Twitter Trayvon Martin supporters were not happy with B35.
I really think that some feel that since B35 is black and in the community, he clearly should have had an opinion that George Zimmerman is guilty and he killed a "little child." I use "little child" because that is how Trayvon was being represented in the early days after the shooting.
I really wanted B35 to be part of the jury, but as time went on I ended up classifying him as a Stealth Juror.
B65 doesn't have the Internet, Cable, reads no newspapers, goes to church and lives a very simple life. B65 has heard about the George Zimmerman case through Church and has formed no opinion. In my opinion, she would be the perfect juror to represent the community.
B7, male, white, was very concerned about his name coming out publicly, and he should be concerned because some of the Twitter world is already gearing up should the verdict not be in their favor.
B51, female, white, perhaps middle-aged, seemed to say often "he didn't wait" when the dispatcher told George Zimmerman not to follow Trayvon. It was very clear to me that she didn't remember the non emergency communication.
B55 an Asian female seemed clueless, and E6 female, white, was very nervous. I don't feel either of these potential jurors will be selected. Personally, I don't feel they could handle the pressure of this trial as the protesters start hanging out at the courthouse.
E54, male, white did follow more regarding George Zimmerman not being arrested after the shooting, he has seen photos of George Zimmerman's nose and back of head. He was aware of the protest to have George Zimmerman arrested and he followed it up to George Zimmerman's arrest and second-degree murder charge.
A majority of the potential jurors over the last two days have seen some coverage of what happened between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. Some heard more than others, and some watched early coverage and never followed anymore coverage.
The Twitter world needs to realize that people even within the Sanford community do not follow when there is a shooting in their community. They can hear about it and move on in life.
Also, not everyone in Sanford or across the land watches HLN or wants to even listen to other TV Show commentators or TV Lawyers and listen to their speculation of what happened between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin.
When commentator's speculation is constantly hitting the public in the face, we tend to remember the speculation and forget the facts of the case.

George Zimmerman Trial - June 10, 2013
I have been reading the #GeorgeZimmerman tweets throughout the first day of Jury selection and the hatred for George Zimmerman spews in-depth each Twitter second.
The first four jurors up for their voir dier, B12, B29, B30, B76 had some knowledge of what happened between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. Two of the jurors referred to Trayvon as a “little child” of which, really concerned me.
Back when this shooting first happened, the initial photo released by the media was that of a young Trayvon Martin, perhaps 12. However, it is always the first picture of a person that is always remembered.
As I sit back, I earlier thought that it was the media releasing the younger photo of Trayvon, but the only way the media would get a photo of Trayvon would be through the family. Why did the family release such an early photo of Trayvon in the first place?
I know for me, when I initially saw the picture of Trayvon, I thought he was so young, and that really concerned me. For sure, this young photo of Trayvon got people outraged across the land.
As each Twitter second went by, people wanted George in court in an orange jumpsuit and shackles. George is out on bail, and is still “innocent until proven guilty.” Even if George was in jail awaiting his trial, he is still “innocent until proven guilty” and would come into court in a suit.
The only time a defendant is in court in an orange or striped or whatever colored jumpsuit and shackles is when the defendant returns to court for sentencing without the jury present. It is just that simple.
As Twitter seconds were flying by, people wanted George Zimmerman charged with first-degree murder. Clearly people just don’t understand the system. If people would use the Internet to search out information rather than complaining about the system, they would understand. First-degree murder = premeditation. Second-degree murder = not premeditated.
A big part of the George Zimmerman Twitter discussion was about George’s weight. People can be so damn cruel in general when they see someone who is heavy, thick, or fat.
I don’t know why George put on so much weight, but he did. Maybe he was trying to change his appearance so as not to be so recognizable, or perhaps he is just an emotional eater. Whatever the case maybe, it is what it is for George. If he was in jail, he would probably be gaining weight like most inmates.
Now let’s get down to the jury selection. I just watched a segment on TV with Trayvon’s mother and her concerns about selecting jurors that represent the community. On Monday, out of the four potential jurors questioned, only one was a black and female, B29.
B29 is from Chicago, and moved to the area four months ago. She is one of the jurors that referred to Trayvon as a “little child” based on brief interaction with the news. IMO, B29 would be a good juror to sit on this trial as she has five or more children, of which, some are teens. She hasn’t been influenced by the media coverage and would clearly represent the community.
As it stands today, June 11, 2013, three of the four potential jurors questioned on Monday have returned to court. It appears that potential juror, B12, an elder man, hard of hearing has been dismissed.
